Christopher King the art director of Melville House Books shares, via a blog post, some of the steps between initial idea and finished piece for his cover of The Fallback Plan by Leigh Stein.

The 4th image is the final cover, the other three were ones he worked on along the way. I think they are all really nice. Love getting insight into another designers process!

I suspect that I found this via The Casual Optimist, I’ve had it bookmarked for a few weeks now.
